Sony is retiring mocopi link: what changes for PC connections

Sony plans to remove mocopi link from the App Store and Google Play on October 28, 2026. Users who connect sensors to a PC through a phone should check their software version and data connection before updating. The main mocopi smartphone app remains a separate tool.
The deadline concerns mocopi link
Sony lists October 28, 2026 as the planned end of mocopi link distribution through the App Store and Google Play. Its notice says existing installations may remain in use without further updates. Once distribution ends, uninstalling the app will mean it cannot be downloaded again. Sony’s English notice.
Mobile mocopi operates the system on a smartphone and also provides sensor firmware updates. Sony’s installation guide still links to its Android and iOS versions. The link withdrawal notice does not announce the closure of this main mobile application. Installing the mocopi app.
mocopi link has a different role: it receives sensor data on the phone and forwards it to the PC application. Sony documents both USB and wireless connections between the phone and computer. This intermediate connection route is the one being retired. Sony’s description of mocopi link.
Sony announced the deadline in October 2025. This is a reminder ahead of the planned change: both the English and Japanese notices identify October 28, 2026.
The current PC application already uses a different connection
Removing the mobile bridge from app stores and ending its support in PC software are separate events. The current mocopi PC app download page already states that mocopi link connections are unsupported. It also links to an archived mocopi PC app 2.2.1 installer. mocopi PC app download page.
For the current PC route, Sony specifies the separately sold QM-PR1 receiver. A six-point setup uses one receiver. A twelve-point setup requires two QM-SS1 sensor kits, two receivers and QM-PB1 bands. A buyer should not assume that the base mocopi sensor kit includes the PC receiver. mocopi PC app configurations.
Version 2.2.1 identifies that PC app archive. It does not specify the version of the main mobile app, mocopi link, mocopi VR or XYN Motion Studio.

The archive wording needs clarification
Sony’s two notices differ on this point. The English text limits access to archived PC applications to October 28, 2026. The Japanese text describes continued archive availability without that end date. Availability of older installers after that date therefore remains uncertain. English notice, Japanese notice.
If your setup still passes data through a phone, record the names and versions of both applications and the connection method before changing it. Compare that specific installation with the current documentation. An archive filename alone is not a sufficient reason to downgrade software on a working production computer.
A separate change moved Capture out of XYN Motion Studio
Since October 1, 2026, Sony has consolidated capture in mocopi PC app, while XYN Motion Studio handles motion editing and data management. This is a separate change from retirement of the link bridge. Sony’s confirmation of the application split.
When planning a motion-capture workstation, list sensors, receiver, capture application and any editing software separately. That makes it possible to check what the chosen program actually needs instead of specifying the entire setup using only the name “mocopi”.
