Industrial AR glasses can help users follow instructions, consult others about faults and document work without constantly reaching for a phone. Start with the task: what the employee needs to learn from the display, what a remote expert should see and which application the device will work with. The term ‘AR’ alone does not mean that every model presents images in the same way.
A display in front of the eye or a see-through view?
RealWear Navigator 520 has a small display on an adjustable arm. It is designed for reading information and receiving remote assistance; it is not a pair of transparent glasses that overlays holograms on the surroundings. This category also includes Navigator 500 and HMT-1; compare the specifications and supported applications for the specific model.
Epson Moverio BT-45CS uses transparent displays in front of both eyes and a camera to share a view of the workstation. Vuzix Blade 2 pokazuje informacje przed prawym okiem. Z kolei Vuzix LX1 is being developed for warehouse processes, including work with codes and picking instructions.
What should you check before deployment?
- App and integration. Check support for remote assistance, documents or the warehouse management system. The presence of Android alone does not guarantee compatibility with company software or that a licence is included in the hardware price.
- Warunki stanowiska. Compare the specific model's resistance to dust and water, its mounting method and compatibility with the helmet and protective equipment in use. Not every model offers the same protection.
- Comfort throughout the shift. Test display legibility, controls in a noisy environment, user fit, battery life and the charging process. A short demonstration is not a substitute for a trial during the actual task.
- Network and management. Establish the requirements for connectivity, updates, user accounts and access to the camera feed. Take your organisation's security rules into account.
Choose glasses for the workflow, not the other way round
Before ordering a larger number of devices, run a pilot at one workstation. Check whether the employee can perform the task comfortably and whether the person providing support can see the necessary details. The goal is to improve a specific activity, not simply to equip the team with a new display.
Ask for help choosing AR glasses. Tell us about the work, applications, conditions at the workstation and the planned number of devices. This will make it easier to compare models and determine which software and accessories the quote needs to include.
