Sony mocopi
Sony mocopi QM-SS1, six motion sensors
Sony mocopi is a kit of six sensors for capturing body motion. It is suitable for creating animations and controlling an avatar in compatible software. The basic setup works with a supported smartphone.
Six body-worn sensors
The sensors attach to the head, hip, wrists and ankles. Each weighs approximately 8 g, measures 32 mm in diameter and is 11.6 mm thick. The accelerometer and gyroscope record motion, and the software converts the measurements into the avatar's position. You do not need a special suit or external base stations. Before you start recording, attach the sensors at the specified locations and perform calibration. This description applies to the basic six-sensor kit, not the Pro setup with twelve tracking points.

Phone compatibility must be checked before purchase
The sensors communicate via Bluetooth LE 5.2. The stated range is up to 10 m, but it depends on the environment and does not specify a guaranteed studio coverage area. Install the mocopi app on a phone from the current mocopi compatibility list. Having Bluetooth or the appropriate Android or iOS version alone does not confirm support for a particular model. The mobile app is also used to update the sensors' firmware. Before a planned recording, check the entire data workflow: the phone, the avatar and the software you want to send motion data to.
Additional items are required for PC use
Sony's current setup for six-point tracking requires a QM-PR1 receiver, sold separately, and the appropriate app or plan. The hardware kit does not include a one-year mocopi PC app licence. A twelve-point setup requires two QM-SS1 kits, two QM-PR1 receivers and QM-PB1 straps. From 1 October 2026, mocopi PC app handles motion capture, while XYN Motion Studio is used for editing and data management. Schools, studios and businesses also need to check regional availability and the terms of the chosen software.
Charging, resistance ratings and box contents
According to Sony, the sensors run for up to approximately 10 hours, and charging in the case via USB-C takes approximately 1.5 hours. Actual battery life depends on usage. The IPX5/IPX8 and IP6X ratings apply to the sensors; they do not indicate the same level of protection for the case. After a session, prepare the equipment for charging as instructed in the manual. The US QMSS1/USCXK package described here also includes two extension straps. Before ordering, confirm the exact variant to be supplied, as the contents of Sony's regional kits differ.
