HTC VIVE Tracker 3.0
A move that the controllers won't catch
For users of SteamVR Lighthouse setups, animators and teams building simulations that require tracking of body parts, props or tools.
Lighter and smaller than the predecessor
Tracker 3.0 weighs only 75 grams and is 33% smaller than the previous 2018 generation, making it less obtrusive when attached to the body or a small prop. Its battery lasts for up to 7.5 hours of use on a single charge, while charging uses a modern USB-C port instead of the older Micro-USB connection. In practice, the device becomes almost unnoticeable during a session rather than adding distracting weight.

Lighthouse precision
Tracker 3.0 uses the system SteamVR Lighthouse and requires 1.0 or 2.0 base stations. Tracking accuracy must be checked in the intended configuration.

Universal mounting
A standard 1/4-inch thread lets you attach the tracker to compatible straps, mounts and props. Choose the specific mounting solution for the intended use; straps and base stations are sold separately.

Use cases
- fuller body tracking in compatible applications
- Motion capture and virtual production
- tracking of props, cameras and specialised controllers
Limitations and compatibility
The tracker requires SteamVR 1.0 or 2.0 base stations, a separate USB receiver and compatible software. The tracker works with VIVE Pro 2, Pro Eye, Pro, Cosmos Elite and the original VIVE, although the original VIVE works only with 1.0 base stations. One tracker does not provide full-body tracking; at least three are recommended for this purpose. Body straps and mounts are sold separately.
Alternatives
VIVE Ultimate Tracker does not require base stations and is better suited to installations that do not have them. Tracker 3.0 is the natural choice where Lighthouse infrastructure is already in place and the application supports this tracking method.
For businesses and universities
The number of trackers, USB ports, base stations and mounts must be chosen to suit the application. It is worth testing sensor occlusion, calibration and base station positioning in the intended space.
