Insta360 Luna Ultra

Insta360 Luna Ultra with two lenses

Insta360 Luna Ultra is a handheld gimbal camera with two lenses for filming on the go and vlogging. It is suited to filming while moving when you want different framing options close at hand. You can switch from a wider shot to a closer one without reaching for a second camera.

Two types of shots

You have main lens with a 1″ sensor, F1.8 and a 20 mm equivalent focal length and a telephoto lens with a 1/1.3″ sensor, F2.0 and a 60 mm equivalent focal length. This makes it easier to move from a wide shot to a closer view without changing cameras. You can record 8K at 24, 25 or 30 fps, and when you want smoother motion, you can choose 4K at up to 120 fps. Footage is saved as MP4 using the H.265 codec, with Standard, Dolby Vision and 10-bit I-Log profiles.

Stable framing on the move

3-axis gimbal stabilizes the shot as you walk with the camera or change the framing. The controllable ranges are pan from −57° to 235°, pitch from −57° to 120°, and roll from −50° to 50°, so you can plan the camera head's movement. Detachable 2″ OLED touchscreen with a resolution of 318 × 564 px, a brightness of 1000 nits and a 60 Hz refresh rate lets you monitor the image away from the camera body. Four microphones, three in the camera and one in the screen, help capture audio with different framing setups.

Storage for photos

47 GB of internal storage lets you start recording without a card; with added storage, microSD cards up to 2 TB are supported. You can save photos as JPG or JPG + RAW, giving you a choice between a ready-to-use file and one for further editing. Standard mode offers 9 MP, UltraPhoto 37 MP, and Scenic Panorama 200 MP. You can choose a mode depending on whether you're taking a quick photo to publish or a shot you want to spend more time editing. Each mode serves a different purpose, so it's worth choosing the format before you start shooting.

Battery and Charging

Two batteries power the camera (1550 mAh) and the detachable screen (210 mAh) separately. On a single charge, you can record up to 240 minutes of recording at 1080p/24fps with the screen and Wi-Fi off. This was measured in a laboratory at 25°C; actual battery life depends on usage conditions. With the camera switched off and a USB-C charger supporting PD3.0 PPS (15 V/3 A), charging to 80% takes about 23 minutes, and to 100% about 38 minutes. These charging times were also measured in a laboratory at 25°C.
