VR treadmills: KatWalk C2+ or Virtuix Omni One, and when to hire

A VR treadmill is different equipment from a running treadmill. The KatWalk C2+ and Omni One compared here use a low-friction platform, a harness and sensors that translate steps into movement in a compatible game. They do not automatically replace controllers or work with every app. A harness does not remove the requirements for a safe surrounding area, proper fit and operation. Check the whole setup: treadmill version, headset, game, adapter or driver, and intended use.
KatWalk C2+ and Omni One: comparison
| KatWalk C2+ | Virtuix Omni One | |

| Movement | 360°, walking, running, turning | 360°, walking, running, turning, crouching |
| Maximum user weight | 130 kg | 113 kg |
| Headset and game connection | PCVR: KAT Gateway and a compatible game. Standalone Quest: a KAT Nexus adapter and a game on the manufacturer's list. | PCVR: OmniConnect and a compatible game. Quest: OmniConnect for Quest and a supported title. The complete Omni One kit has its own customized PICO headset. |
| Usage scope | Confirm game compatibility and the terms for the exact model and intended use. | Core and Quest: home use. Enterprise: a separate version for business use and custom apps. |
| How it works | stabilising harness, step sensors, movement transferred to the game in real time | omnidirectional platform, user in a harness, full 360° range |
Confirm the exact model and kit contents before ordering. KAT currently presents the C2 Plus Enhanced; do not transfer its dimensions, equipment or features to an older C2+ without confirmation. For Omni One, distinguish the kit with a headset, Core, the Quest configuration and Enterprise. Check dimensions, required space, accessories and compatibility of the exact game for the quoted version and current documentation.
Choose the version, then check the game
KAT and PCVR. Check the headset-to-PC connection, KAT Gateway, game and its movement settings. Standalone Quest requires a separate setup with KAT Nexus and a game on the current list. Buying a headset or finding a game in a store does not confirm treadmill support.
Omni One and PCVR. Core is a kit without a headset or controllers. A PCVR setup requires your own compatible headset, a PC and the OmniConnect app. The manufacturer lists games and required settings separately. Connecting PICO or Pimax to a PC does not automatically give one treadmill model an advantage.
Omni One without a PC. The complete kit uses a customized PICO headset and the Omni One store. For your own Quest, the manufacturer provides OmniConnect for Quest, a user account, Bluetooth and selected compatible games. A standard PICO 4 or 4 Ultra is not the same kit as the included Omni One headset; developing PICO apps for Enterprise has separate requirements.

How much space and what kind of computer do you need?
- Space: check the dimensions of the exact version and its installation instructions. Allow for entry, arm movement, the harness, turning, room height and operator access. The platform footprint alone does not define the safe space for the station.
- Headset and PC: choose PCVR or a supported standalone setup. PCVR requires a PC meeting the headset, game and driver requirements. Confirm Wi-Fi or cable connectivity, adapters and required accounts for the selected kit.
- Users: check weight and height limits, harness fit and other manual restrictions. Minimum height alone does not confirm that the station is suitable for a child. Agree on supervision and how to stop a session.
- Shoes: the treadmills use dedicated low-friction shoes or shoe covers; for multiple users (event, VR arcade), budget for spare sizes.

Buy or hire?
The choice between buying and hiring depends on how often you will use the equipment, the space available and access to staff. Check whether a hire package includes the treadmill, headset, transport, installation and operation of the station.
- One-off event, open day or trade fair: compare rental with purchase. Confirm date availability, equipment, permitted games and commercial use, staffing, installation and service; rental scope varies by supplier.
- VR arcade, leisure venue zone, training centre or company showroom: consider buying if you plan to use it regularly and have both the space and someone responsible for operation and servicing.
- Home: buy only if you use VR regularly and have the space; for occasional entertainment, it is too large.
VR treadmills in training and simulations
A treadmill can be part of a simulation of movement around a site, but app compatibility and training value must be tested in the exact scenario. Do not assume automatic improvements in recall or reproduction of real-world exertion. A trial should confirm controls, completion of the whole exercise, resetting between participants and how results will be assessed.
For business purchases, also check hardware and app usage terms. Virtuix describes Omni One Core and Quest as consumer products for home use; commercial or business use violates the terms and voids the warranty for those versions. Enterprise is a separate solution for business use and custom apps, with Unity and Unreal SDKs. The manufacturer does not design Enterprise for entertainment centers and points them to Omni Arena. The name “Omni One” on a product page does not confirm the correct version or rights for business use. For KAT and every game, also confirm intended use, licensing, support and warranty in writing.
A trial and the cost of the complete station
- Give the supplier the exact treadmill version, headset model, game or custom app, OS version and intended use: home, training or an entertainment center. Request confirmation of compatibility and usage terms.
- Test the target game: launch, walking, turning, controllers, interactions and calibration after changing users. For a custom app, confirm the integration scope, then complete the full scenario on the selected kit.
- Itemize the treadmill, headset and controllers, PC, adapter or dongle, footwear and sizes, licenses, transport, installation, setup, instruction and service in the quotation. Agree on who is responsible for the app, kit compatibility and updates.

Common purchasing mistakes
- Choosing by headset brand alone without checking the game, treadmill version and connection path.
- Insufficient space for the harness, turning and entry.
- Buying without trying the target game or app; availability of a demo or rental must be agreed.
- Leaving adapters, footwear, licenses and setup out of the budget.
- No PC in a PCVR setup, or assuming the entire standalone headset library supports the treadmill.
FAQ
How does a VR treadmill differ from a standard treadmill?
The KatWalk C2+ and Omni One compared here use a low-friction platform, a harness and sensors instead of a motor-driven belt. Steps are translated into movement in a compatible game. This is not a replacement for a running-training treadmill; the model manual defines use and restrictions.
What do you need for a VR treadmill station?
In addition to the treadmill, you need a compatible headset, a properly fitted harness and the shoes or overshoes specified by the manufacturer. Include a computer for SteamVR games.
Does a VR treadmill work with Meta Quest 3?
It can work in a confirmed setup. For standalone Quest, KAT requires a KAT Nexus adapter and a supported game. Virtuix provides OmniConnect for Quest and selected compatible titles. PCVR is a separate path with a PC and driver. Before buying, check the model, treadmill version, game and current manufacturer requirements.
Do you need a computer?
For PCVR and SteamVR, yes. Selected standalone setups work without a PC: KAT with Nexus and a supported Quest game, Omni One with its customized headset and own library, or OmniConnect for Quest with a compatible title. This does not mean support for every game in a headset library.
Can you hire a VR treadmill?
Yes, event companies offer VR treadmill station hire. Check the arrangements for staffing, transport and installation. For regular use, compare the hire terms with running your own station.
